The vacation paradise of Khao Lak has a humid tropical climate . It is comparable to the climate of Phuket, which is only about 60 kilometers away. Changes in monsoons determine the climate and thus the weather in Khao Lak. The classic seasons as we know them from Germany and many parts of Europe – winter, spring, summer and autumn – do not exist in Khao Lak. The daytime temperatures usually reach 30 degrees every day and are often well above it. In other words: there are no strong temperature fluctuations over the course of the year. Neither for the air nor for the water temperature. It is never cold in this region of Thailand! According to picktrue, there are two seasons in Khao Lak : the Rainy and dry seasons . The weather changes with the seasons take place twice a year. The swings take a couple of weeks. Then the weather leveled off. During this time, very changeable weather is the order of the day.

Dry season in Khao Lak

There is a monsoon change in Khao Lak between October and November. The dry season is arriving and lasts from November to April . It can take a few days and weeks for the weather to fully adjust to the dry season. If the dry season arrives, it scores with many positive properties. From November the number of hours of sunshine per day increases. In November the sun shines for an average of 5 hours. In February, March and April there are 9 hours of sunshine a day. Another characteristic of the dry season is the low number of rainy days. February is the driest month of all. It only rains 3 days. Caution: Do not rely too much on these values, because exceptions prove the rule. Especially with the Thai weather you have to be prepared for anything. The change of monsoons brings dry and cool air. The humidity is significantly lower than during the rainy season. This helps you to withstand extreme daytime temperatures of up to 34 degrees Celsius, such as in March and April.

Conclusion : During the dry season in Khao Lak you can expect little rain, lots of sunshine, low humidity and high summer temperatures.

Rainy season in Khao Lak

Another monsoon change and a change in weather take place between April and May . It goes from the dry to the rainy season. The rainy season announced in April with an increase in humidity. In May the rainy season has finally arrived in Khao Lak and the weather shows its unpleasant side. The monsoon continues to have an impact and brings with it a lot of heavy rainfall until October. It can rain briefly and heavily, it can just as easily be continuous rain for days. In the months of September and October it rains 22 to 23 days a month. There are also strong winds and storms. All of this creates unrest in the sea, making swimming and bathing impossible. The temperatures are still at 30 degrees Celsius and more. In combination with the high humidity, this can lead to circulatory problems. The air is oppressive and muggy. It doesn’t cool down at night either.

Conclusion: During the rainy season there is a lot of precipitation, high humidity and few hours of sunshine. The air and water temperatures are high.

If you want to visit Khao Lak on the mainland in the south of Thailand, I recommend the dry season as the best time to travel . It prevails from late November to mid-April . These months are known to many vacationers as the best time to visit Khao Lak. Many use the Christmas and Easter holidays to travel to the beautiful holiday region on the Andaman Sea. This means that there are numerous tourists on site at this time. If you don’t feel like the tourist crowds, you should travel to Khao Lak outside of the holiday periods. You won’t be all alone in paradise, but there are significantly fewer tourists to be found. You also benefit from lower hotel and flight costs. I don’t recommend the rainy season as the best time to visit Khao Lak. The temperatures are great and the prices are cheaper, but you run the risk of your vacation falling into the water. It can rain for days, which can take away the joy of the break. If you don’t want to risk that, avoid the months May to October as the travel time for Khao Lak.
